Under 12's versus Telford & District - 05 February
Telford & District 0  Brierley Hill & Dudley 7

After winning their first two games in convincing fashion against Walsall and then Halesowen and Stourbridge, the Brierley Hill and Dudley U12s suffered defeat in their next two games, versus Wolverhampton and Coventry, despite dominating both games in terms of possession and chances.  This meant that the Telford game could make or break the season for the boys, and they needed to be focussed.

After an impressive substitute appearance against Coventry, George Reeves started his first game for the U12s in the centre of midfield, with the in form captain Luke Male continuing in his new role up front with top scorer Sam Elwell.

BH & D started brightly, dominating possession and forcing Telford to play the first 15 minutes in their own half.  However, the break through came when Alex Welch was fouled wide out on the right wing.  From here he delivered an inch perfect cross to the rising Elwell, who steered a looping header over the keeper and into the top corner.

BH & D then began to relax, keeping possession intelligently, with Reeves and Mears composed and influential in midfield.  After another patient build up, James Howell, who was causing the Telford full back continual problems, combined with Mears to set Male free, with the centre forward avoiding the challenges of oncoming defenders to slot home with an inch perfect finish.

HALF TIME

TELFORD 0 – 2 BRIERLEY HILL & DUDLEY

BH & D started the second half where they left off in the first, putting early pressure on Telford, and were rewarded with a goal from the persistent James Howell, who turned home a cross at the far post to make it 0 – 3.  Elwell then added the fourth with the goal of the game, capping a fine team move down the right wing with a sublime right foot finish.

Ryan Edge, unlucky to be on the bench, came on and added strength and composure to the midfield, and got himself onto the score sheet by firing home from close range after meeting an Alex Welch corner.

Livewire substitute Adam McBride came off the bench and put in an excellent display, being rewarded for his hard work and patience with a deserved goal, finishing at the 2 attempt to make it 0 – 6.

Andrew Lowe replaced Hayden Whitcombe in goal early in the second half, with both keepers making solid performances in terms of their distribution and communication, even if they were rarely forced into making a save.

Scott Keys came on at right back for his BH & D U12 debut, adding strength to the solid defense of Billington, Welden, Pritchard and Worthington.  Shane Bennett replaced Male up front and held the ball up well, and added to the score sheet himself, after having several efforts well saved, to make the final score 0 – 7.

FINAL SCORE

Telford 0 – 7 Brierley Hill and Dudley

(Elwell 2, Male, Howell, McBride, Edge, Bennett)
