SUMMERHILL REACH MIDLANDS FINAL OF ESFA COCA COLA CUP

Summerhill defeated Aylestone 5-3 to reach the Final of the ESFA Coca Cola Cup (Midlands Region) and will now meet Valley Comprehensive School (Nottinghamshire) in the Midlands Final (Rushden & Diamonds F.C) on Thursday May 05th for a place in the National Semi-Finals which will be staged at Middlesborough F.C. on May 09th.  The National Finals will be staged at Villa Park on Friday 27th May

Aylestone had previously beaten Summerhill but Summerhill gained the early advantage with a goal from Ashley Malcolm and with both teams creating chances Summerhill were relieved to add to their lead on the stroke of half-time with a goal from Matthew Weyman.  Five minutes into the second half Matthew Weyman scored his 2nd of the match to give Summerhill a 3-1 lead.  Aylestone immediately reduced the arrears but a goal from Richard Hill gave Summerhill a 3-1 advantage.  Aylestone again reduced the arrears but Matthew Weyman copmleted his hat-trick  to give Summerhill a 5-2 advantage. Aylestone completed the scoring to make the final score 5-3 to Summerhill and a place in the Midlands Finals.

DOUBLE DISAPPOINTMENT

There was double disappointment for the Brierley Hill Under 12's and Under 14's in their County Semi-Finals.

The Under 12's led 1-0 for most of the game and were disappointed when Coventry equalised with a late penalty which was hotly disputed.  Neither team was able to score in extra time with Coventry winning the game 4-3 on penalties

MATCH REPORT

West Midlands League Semi Final

After finishing 2nd in the league, the BH & D U12s travelled to Coventry to play the West Midlands League Semi Final.  BH & D started brightly, linking several neat passing moves together before opening the scoring from a set piece, with Will Worthington curling in a tremendous effort with his left foot, from near the touchline.  BH & D went on to dominate the remainder of the first half, with Sam Elwell unlucky not to add to the score when his 20 yard shot struck the Coventry keeper in the face.

The second half remained much the same, with BH & D confident in possession and tight at the back.  The final 15 minutes saw the home team push players forward but BH & D defended resolutely and created many chances on the break as well as having a goal controversially ruled out.

After 6 minutes of injury time, the referee awarded a harsh penalty for handball which was converted.

During extra time, Shane Bennett and Alex Welsh were unlucky not to score, and Hayden Whitcombe made a tremendous block at the other end.

The match went to penalties, with Coventry winning 4-3 in the shootout.  Welden, Male and Welsh all converted their penalties, with Whitcombe saving one.  This was an excellent performance from the U12s, and they were extremely unlucky not to win the game in normal time.

Man of the Match: Will Worthington

The Under 14's also lost to a late penalty to Solihull with the teams tied on 2-2 - Solihull converted the kick to win the game 3-2 - scorers Jan Coulston and Kyle Hill
