Impressive Plantsbrook are Birmingham Champions
The first of this year's Birmingham finals was decided when Plantsbrook School ( Erdington & Saltley) beat Lyndon School (Soliihull) 4 - 2 in the final of the prestigious U12 Travel Trophy.
Plantsbrook took an early lead through Marcelle Richards and had the best of the first half, playing controlled football. Lyndon equalised five minutes into the second half to draw level, only for Alex Evans to regain the lead for Plantsbrook. Plantsbrook continued to dominate, Marcelle Richards then got his second and, from this point on, the result looked never in doubt. Charlie Buisst scored Plantsbrook's fourth before Lyndon claimed a late consolation goal. This was a thouroughly deserved 4 - 2 victory, although credit should go to all players for producing a very entertaining final.
This year's Birmingham City U16 Finalists are CTC and Arden. In a very close fought game that could have gone either way. CTC scored the only goal to go through after minutes earlier Perry Beeches had hit the post.
The other semi final between Arden and Light Hall was also a tight game with not many clear cut chances for either team. Arden scored their first with a free kick from 10 metres inside the opposition's half that was floated into the penaly spot, not cleared quickly enough and jumped on and finished by Jamie Morgan from close range. The game remained close with neither side wanting to give away a goal. in the second half the wind picked up and there were periods of light rain and both teams started to tire as the frantic pace had not relented. Light Hall had a few chances to equalise but following some sustained pressure, Jamie Morgan grabbed his and Arden's second. There was no coming back from this and Arden went on to keep a clean sheet and secure a 2 - 0 victory.
The date and venue of the U16 Blues final, as with the U15 Villa Cup final and U14 Trevor Gill final, has yet to be decided.
The final of The U13 George Welford Federation will be at Hollyfields Sports & Social Club on Tuesday 23rd March k.o. 4:00 For further information contact Chris Curran @ CTC <firstname.lastname@example.org>,
