THe Ups and Downs of Football

Erdingtons U13s and U15s met Nuneaton Schools on Saturday in the West Midlands league

U15s

The U15s quickly settled and their efforts were rewarded after ten minutes when Luke Shearer hit an unstoppable freekick from about twenty five yards. Nuneaton found it difficult to cope with Erdington's pacy forwards and they found themselves 2 -0 down when George Howells scored with a great strike from twenty yards. Just before half time a great flick on by Miles Sturridge put Kiele Richards through who calmly lobbed the keeper to make the score 3 - 0 at half time.

In the second half, to their credit, Nuneaton fought their way back into the game and scored after fifteen minutes. They also had a goal disallowed before Luke Cronin scored Erdington's fourth to put the game beyond doubt making the final score 4 - 1. This was an excellent performance and an ideal preparation for next weeks English Schools cup game against Stockport.

Hat Trick Hero

The U13s were not so fortunate against Nuneaton in an end to end game that saw nine goals being scored game. Due to player absence the team had to be reorganised and took time to settle. Nuneaton took the lead after about six minutes only for Erdington to equalise within a minute through Devante Venables. This proved to be the pattern of the game. Nuneaton again took the lead only for Oliver Miles Hutton to equalise just before half time. Into the second half, Nuneaton scored again and Devante Venables replied to make the score 3 -3. Nuneaton pressed forward and scored another goal. In turn, Devante Venables claimed his hat trick. The game looked destined for a 4 - 4 draw until Nuneaton scored in the dying seconds of the game to claim all points. A disappointing end to an  entertaining game of football in which Erdington thoroughly deserved to get at least a share of the points.
