ERDINGTON K.O. BY HALESOWEN
Declan Rigby
Erdington U12s hopes of cup glory ended in extra time against Halesowen & Stourbridge. With the wind in their favour, Erdington took the lead in the first half when Declan Rigby scored with a long range unstoppable free kick. Further chances were created but were not converted into goals. Kicking into the wind second half, Erdington had difficulty coping with the conditions but the defence held firm until near the end of full time when Halesowen scored. In extra time Erdington lost the sevices of Liam Kinsella who, once again had an excellent game in the heart of the Erdington defence. This seemed to unsettle the team and Halesowen took the advantage and scored what turned out to be the decisive goal. Erdington battled bravely but unfortunately could not turn their chances into goals. A disappointment but overall another encouraging display from this developing side which bodes well for the future.
Sam Elgar
The U14s finished this season’s fixtures on a high with a great all round team performance against visitors Hereford in the West Midlands League. In very blustery condition, Erdington took the lead towards the end of the first half through James Cosgrave who once again had an outstanding match in the heart of the Erdington defence along with Sam Elgar. This proved to be the decisive goal.
U14 District Side
Kicking against the wind in the second half, Erdington worked extremely hard to close down Hereford and consequently the only chances they could create were from set pieces but Jordan Arnett once again was in fine form in goal and dealt with all Hereford had to offer. Myles Sturridge held the ball up well up front and was constant threat to Hereford, well supported by Kieron Rose and Kane Gibbons. Overall the team showed a great work ethic and thoroughly deserved their win.
Unfortunately the U13s were not so successful in their last match of the season. Erdington started very brightly and pressed forward causing problems for the Hereford defence. However, two penalties in a very short space of time midway through the first half sealed Erdington’s fate. 2 – 0 down at half time Erdington could not get back into the game and two more goals were scored before Hawdam Khalis scored a consolation goal.
Steve Hayles
Despite results going against them this season, the team has shown great spirit with special mention of Kieran Caulfield and Jamie Eagles who have worked tirelessly in midfield , Conor Doyle who has shown great potential up front whilst Rob Fearn and Steve Hayles have been always been dependable in the heart of the Erdington defence.
