Erdington & Saltley Cup Finals

U12 Bishop Walsh 2 v College High 3

U12 Bishop Walsh

U12  College High

This was a very close and entertaining final. Bishop Walsh opened the scoring early on through Connor Ceasar, only for Norton Massamba to equalise, running on to a through pass using his pace and strength to score. With the wind behind them, College High had slightly the better of the first half and Declan Sullivan put them ahead with a great strike, just before half time. In the second half, Walsh came back strongly and midway through the game, Jordan Cummings – Harris hit a great free kick which hit the underside of the bar and the post before going into the net to put the scores level. Almost immediately College High went ahead when Alistair  Brauns hit an unstoppable 35 yard free kick into the roof of the net to make the score 3 -2 which, despite Walsh pressure was the final result

U13 Arthur Terry 1 v Bishop Walsh 2

U13 Arthur Terry

U13 Bishop Walsh

This final was a close, end to end and enthralling game which either side could have won. Kicking with the wind and slope, Walsh took an early lead through Thomas Barron –Exall. Lewis James’ pace up front was a constant threat all game to the Arthur Terry defence and Walsh went further ahead through Callum Wardlaw. As Arthur Terry piled on the pressure in the second  Kieran Jackson pulled a goal back which resulted in a nail biting finish. However Walsh held out to win 2 – 1

U14 John Willmott 4 v Kingsbury 2

The U14 final proved to be a very rugged and competitive one with both teams giving their all. Shaquille Mc Donald opened the scoring nudging in Naresh Sanhu’s free kick. Josh Cattell then scored for Kingsbury only for Jacob Holland and then Gary Forde to put Willmott 3 -1 up. Josh Cattell then scored

U14 John Willmott

his second goal but Shaquille McDonald made the game safe for Willmott with 15 minutes to go making the final score 4 - 2

U15 Arthur Terry 0 v Plantsbrook 1

U15 Arthur Terry

U15 Plantsbrook

The final paired the two strongest teams within the association against one another and it was no surprise that there was little to chose between the two sides. It was an end to end game with neither side able to break the deadlock until Jim Dale scored the only goal of the game for Plantsbook to take the trophy. The game was very competitive but played in an excellent spirit and both teams were a credit to themselves

U16 Stockland Green 1  v Washwood Heath 0

U16 Washwood Heath

If ever there was a game of two halves this was it!  Washwood Heath quickly got into their stride kicking with the wind and dominated the majority of the first half with West Midlands County captain, Malachi Farquarson, in commanding form in the centre of midfield. Although much pressure was put on the Stockland Green defence, it held firm and Washwood’s possession and dominance was not turned into goals.  Stockland’s keeper was not really tested despite the guile and trickery of James Smith up front for Washwood. In the second half Stockland Green came back strongly with Lee Savings having a great game in midfield and, as with Washwood in the first half,  Stockland put great pressure on their defence without really testing the keeper. Despite Ian Lancaster hitting the bar, the game looked destined for extra time until a great strike from Luke Cowan sealed a victory for Stockland Green. Credit should go to both teams for their commitment and giving their all.

   U16 Stockland Green

Special mention should be made of Kashif Mohammed and Yasir Mir who had an outstanding games in midfield and in defence for Washwood Heath.

U19 Arthur Terry 3  v  Sutton College 3 (Arthur Terry 3 v Sutton College 2 penalties)

U19 Sutton College

 U19 Arthur Terry

Another final that was played in a very competitive spirit and the result could have gone either way. It was a pulsating first half that saw five goals scored. Sutton College opened the scoring through Jack Craven only for Oliver Dain to equalise shortly after.  David Weston put Sutton ahead again and then Arthur Terry scored two goals through Joe Broughton and Tom Harris to make the score 3 – 2 at half time. Sutton took control of the second half and Luke Roach made it 3 -3 with ten minutes to go. Despite pressure the score remain 3 – 3 at full time. The deadlock could not be broken in extra time although Arthur Terry thought they had won it, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside. The game was eventually decided by penalties which Arthur Terry eventually won 3 - 2
