U13s End Season on a High
The U13s finished the season by drawing 4 - 4 against Nuneaton and winning the Warwickshire league in the play off. Leading 5 - 2 from the first leg, Erdington found themselves under pressure in the early stages of the game but took the lead through Jack Rigley against the run off play. Erdington then went two up through left back Lewis Allen. With the wind and slope in their favour Nuneaton pressed players forward and three quick goals due to defensive errors put them back in the game. Despite Nuneaton hitting another goal in the second half , two more goals by Jack Rigley and Ryan Perlic earned Erdington a 4 - 4 draw and the trophy.
The U12s were less fortunate in their play off against Nuneaton and they were not helped by the fact that they were deprived of the services of four key players. Leading by the narrow margin of 1 - 0 from the first leg, Erdington could not get into their stride in the first half kicking uphill against the wind. Nuneaton quickly got themselves into the game and scored two quick goals due to poor defending. It might have been worse but Sean Flanagan pulled off a great save to keep Erdington,s hopes alive. Just before half time Kane Donald scored for Erdington only for it to be ruled offside.
Erdington & Saltley U12s
In the second half Erdington pushed players forward but were unable to finish the chances created. Nuneaton then scored their third with a breakaway goal. Erdington continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded with a penalty which Declan Sullivan converted but despite their efforts they were unable to score another goal to take the game into extra time.
The U14s and U15s travelled to Halesowen and Stourbridge for their final West Midlands league games of the season. Despite spirited performances both teams were on the losing side with U14 going down 4 - 2 whilst the U15s lost 4 - 0.
It was a game of 2 halves for the U14s who were outstanding in the first, playing some of their best football all year. They were desrvedly ahead at half time with goals from Shaqil McDonald, the first coming direct from a goalkick by Jordan Lengthorn that Shakil ran onto and looped a header over the keeper and the second a tap in after a wonderful left foot free kick from Steve Hayles that the keeper did well to keep out. Erdington should have put the game beyond Halesowen but missed chances and good defending kept the score 2-1.
Unfortunately Erdington sat back inviting pressure in the second half and they paid the price by conceding three goals.
The U15s had their chances but Halesowen's quick counter attacking foootball saw Erdington concede three goals in the second half when it looked as though they were going to get something from the game.
These games completed Erdington's representative fixtures for the season with the exception of the U14 Warwickshire Cup final away to Mid Oxfordshire on Saturday 2nd May
