A strong U13 E & S side had high hopes of a good run in the divisional cup competition but it wasn't to be, surprisingly losing 5 - 1 to Hereford Schools

The late arrival of Hereford did little to help the team and when the game eventually got underway it was the away side that took the early initiative and soon found themselves 2-0 up inside the first 20 minutes. Erdington continued to press and a change of formation to 4-5-1 soon saw the home side take control of what was a close match between two very good footballing sides. Just before half time, Hereford put the game beyond doubt with a goal from a corner. Erdington continued to press forward, but poor finishing and some good goalkeeping from the Hereford meant that their efforts were in vain.

 

The second half started as the first finished, a goal on the break from Hereford meant all that was left to play for was pride. Erdington dug deep and dominated the second half but could not find the net until Ali Brauns scored a late consolation goal.  With minutes to go Hereford scored yet again to make the final result 5 – 1. On another day the result could easily have been reversed. Erdington can take some consolation from the plaudits they earned from the opposition. This was their first defeat of the season but if performances continue to improve as they have done, it will hopefully be the last. Special mention should be made of Kane Donald, Remi Bell, Ali Brauns and Pete Davie all of whom had outstanding games.
