Erdington U12s into the Semis

Pride of place goes to Erdington,Saltley & Sutton U12's who beat Cannock schools 1 – 0 to move into the semi finals of the divisional cup.

The U12s started brightly and were the better side in the opening 20 minutes, testing the goalkeeper and hitting the posts on numerous occasions. Their persistence was eventually rewarded when, after some interchanging football from Luke Bennett, Ben Phillips and Jacob Roberts in midfield, Harrison Doherty crossed from the left wing and good pressure from Liam McGrandels, led to a Cannock defender turning the ball into his own net.
Erdington were content to defend their lead into half time and looked to counter attack with the pace of Charlie Hackett and Marcel Richards in the second half. In the second half Erdington were put under a great deal of pressure but they demonstrated their passion, fight and commitment. Commanding goalkeeping and resilient defending enabled them to hold onto their lead, withstanding numerous attacks from a good Cannock side. Erdington now look forward to the semi final. Special mention should be made of Harry Ellis who made his debut for the team.

The U13s were able to name a full squad for the first time in a few months against a Nuneaton side who had previously beaten them 5-1 two weeks ago. Erdington made a good, solid start and could have had an early penalty. However they did not have to wait too long for the opening goal as Norton Massamba broke free and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. Erdington could have doubled the lead soon after, as Declan Sullivan missed an open goal, following good work by Norton who was a constant threat to the Nuneaton defence with his powerful surging runs. Further excellent opportunities were created but wasted before half time. Early in the second half, Erdington went futher ahead, when Norton pulled the ball back for Declan Sullivan to finish from 6 yards. A third goal soon followed after Declan crossed from a corner and a scruffy goal was given to the excellent Remi Bell.
Erdington were comfortably in control of the game but let Nuneaton score two late goals. This was an excellent fighting performance from a very strong Erdington side, and an outstanding comeback after a crushing defeat to the same Nueaton side two weeks ago.

Erdington’s league topping U14s travelled to Warley for their West Midlands league match. On a very wet and heavy pitch Erdington put in another workman like performance and won 2 – 0,  a result that was never in doubt with goals coming from Dan Earl and Ryan Perlic,

The U15s also met Nuneaton schools but it was not to be their day losing 1 – 0. They put in another outstanding performance and should have been 3 – 0 up by half time had easy chances been converted. In the second half, despite dominating the game, Erdington continued to fail to find the net and paid heavily when Nuneaton scored what was to prove the only goal of the game.
